Cast
Dave Martin (Drew)
Dave Martin is an actor/singer/musician/ composer/voice actor and sound designer for film, television and internet content based in his home town of Toronto, Canada. Beginning his training in theatre as an actor at Claude Watson School for the Arts, Dave has since worked in the film and music industries in various capacities for over 25 years. A busy voice actor for the past 5 years by day and live performing musician by night, Dave is proud to be returning to the role of Drew in Mourning... after performing in the one act version last March at the Alumnae Theatre New Ideas Festival.
Loriel Medynski (Fenwick)
Loriel is the youngest of four daughters raised in rural Alberta. She discovered dance at a young age, which fostered her love for performance and creating characters, competitively dancing throughout school, performing across North America. At 19, she moved to Vancouver to pursue her dream to become an actor. Since then, Loriel has worked and studied in Vancouver, Edmonton, Los Angeles, New York City and London, England - where she performed dual roles in the UK premier of 'It's All True' by Toronto playwright Jason Sherman, which received Critics Choice in London's Time Out. Other notable plays are 'No Exit' by Jean Paul Sartre, 'The Maids' by Jean Genet and 'Two for the Seesaw' by William Gibson, which she produced and performed in. Now based in Toronto, Loriel continues creating complex and relatable characters in independent film and theatre. It is Loriel’s first time performing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival and is very excited to be part of this incredible community!
Jack Morton (Everett)
Jack Morton is an alumni of the Theatre and Drama Studies program at UTM/Sheridan, now based in Toronto. Having previously worked with Chloe Whitehorn on Aeon, In Therapy, and Divine Wrecks, Jack is delighted to be in another of her plays.
Brianna Richer (Pippa)
Brianna Richer is so thrilled to be a part of this years Fringe with such a lovely cast and crew. Brianna graduated from the Acting for Film and Television program at Humber College and since then has been engaging in lots of community theatre in the city of Toronto. Some notable performances include Loretta in The Melville Boys, Babe in Crimes of The Heart, and most recently Emma in Waltzing with Puppets, which was also written and produced by the wonderful Chloe Whitehorn. Here's hoping you can take something away from the story and message we have to offer in this performance today. Thank you for supporting us creatives and the Toronto Fringe Festival. Enjoy the show!
Mary Wall (Lucy)
Mary starting pursuing her passion for performing at a young age and has spent nearly 25 years playing on stage, tv and film.
Coming from the BFA acting program at York University, Mary's stage and screen roles have seen her explore everything from singing in Anne of Green Gables, kicking ass in Resident Evil and as an FBI agent in 1-800-Missing, being fancy in Murdoch Mysteries, and a turn as the perfect cheerleader in Emmy-nominated My Horrible Year. A few years living overseas had her speaking fluent Italian and continuing her career internationally in ads, music videos, and films.
Mary gets distracted by urban photography (@gingerlymary), working in the mental health field, and being a mom, but the sweet call of showbiz keeps her coming back time and again. She is thrilled to return to the role of Lucy in "Mourning After the Night Before".
Creative Team
Ailene Abcede (Stage Manager)
Ailene graduated from Queen's University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. During her time there she worked on various shows as a production assistant and was also a part of lighting and sound teams. After graduating, Ailene pursued other endeavors outside of theatre, developing a passion for working with children and youth. She later enrolled into George Brown College where she graduated with an advanced diploma in Child and Youth Care. Despite being away from theatre for quite some time, Ailene made sure she implemented what she has learned at Queen's into her work as a Child and Youth Care worker. Ailene is very excited to be a part of the Mourning After the Night Before team!
Brandon Gonçalves (Lighting Designer)
Brandon Goncalves is a lighting designer and a graduate of York University - Glendon College where he completed a Specialized Honours BA in Drama Studies. He is excited to return to the Toronto Fringe as the lighting designer for Mourning After The Night Before. He is also excited to work with Chloë Whitehorn again after perviously starring in the role Prince in the original production of Verona Heights. Other lighting design credits include: The Seat Next To The King (Minmar Gaslight Productions), Jillian Jiggs, The Princess Knight, and A Number (Solar Stage), Spring Awakening, The Breakfast Club, and Heathers the Musical (Lionheart Productions), and Électro Bing Bang (Le Groupe Théâtre Novo).
Heather Keith (Director)
Heather is a film and theatre director, teacher, and actor. She earned her BFA in Theatre Arts from Concordia University, Montreal, and her MFA in Theatre Directing from Ohio University. Some highlights in her career include being a founding member of Les Goons Theatre Troupe, Assistant Directing at the Blythe Festival and Victory Gardens in Chicago, directing her own play I Am Love, and directing the world premiere of Neal Kimmel’s Frances and Marybeth.
Cat Ratusny (Music Composer)
Over the years, Cat has trained and performed as a classical musician, vocalist, singer/songwriter, actor, and educator. This is Cat’s third opportunity to compose for the Fringe Festival and work with an incredibly skilled cast and crew. Thank you to Chloë for the incredible play and opportunity.
Chloë Whitehorn (Playwright)
Described as "Dorothy Parker meets Neil Labute meets M. Night Shyamalan", Chloë Whitehorn is an award winning playwright, actor, and wearer of black dresses. A graduate of Queen's University's theatre program, Chloë’s work often examines taboo moralities, tragic love, and the broken bits of ourselves we all try to hide. Her plays include "The Pigeon" (Top Ten Toronto Shows of 2018--Life With More Cowbell), “Love, Virtually” (Best of Fringe, Toronto 2011), “The Frank Diary of Anne”, "The Deepest Trench", "Divine Wrecks", “Dressing Amelia”, "Clarissa on her Deathbed", and “How to Not Die Horribly in a Fire", and have played across North America.​ Find more on her website: www.chloewhitehorn.com
